Description :

Spondylolisthesis is a common cause of chronic low back and leg pain. The numbers vary, depending upon what source you choose, but approximately 5% of the population suffers from spondylolisthesis and the number is higher in people who have participated in certain activities that place a lot of hyperextension stress on the lumbosacral junction such as football and gymnastics.

In my practice as a spine surgeon I enjoy taking care of people with spondylolisthesis because, in general, I am confident that if they eventually need an operation for their condition they will do very well and have excellent pain relief after an instrumented reduction and fusion of the spondylolisthesis.

The purpose of this node is to allow people who have had surgery for spondylolisthesis share their thoughts about how well the surgery improved their function and decreased their pain.

As an example case, I have included two sets of images of the pre and post-operative radiographs of someone who has been successfully treated for spondylolithesis.  The technique that I use included a trans-foraminal interbody graft at the affected level, local bone graft + BMP, and pedicle screws to complete the reduction and fusion.  Here are a few sample cases....
