I see that there is a lot of media coverage on this concept of "comparative effectiveness." I get confused when reading the articles. Does "comparative effectiveness" mean that the administration is looking for ways to actually compare different types of therapies? Will this be a quality comparison? They mention "value" but to me that means that "costs" will be a major part of the formula. As a patient who had successful spinal surgery I worry that politicians will want patients like me to stick with physical therapy to avoid surgery. In my situation, surgery was actually more cost effective than the non-operative treatments, because surgery worked...
